Parent Volunteers Needed for FTX

By Paula Mitchell-Bentley | Filed in Events, volunteering

Captain Petcoff is looking for 4 or so parents to volunteer to go on next month’s Field Training Exercises. The senior cadets will be doing survival training and the junior cadets (and those who haven’t already completed it) will be doing hunter’s education training. They are mainly looking for parents to help with meal preparation. Please contact Captain Petcoff or Captain Mark if you have any questions or would like to volunteer to attend this camp. It is being held at Alford Lake which is near Caroline.

Only the senior cadets will be sleeping outside but all attendants need to bring sleeping bags.

Dinner at Dick’s Poster

By Paula Mitchell-Bentley | Filed in Donations, Events, Notices

Here’s a link to our Dinner at Dick’s poster (Dick’s Fundraiser1) that can be hung up anywhere that allows it.  Tickets are available in extremely limited quantities and are available on a first come, first served basis!  With that being said, we are hoping to sell out of all 200 available tickets as soon as possible.  This event IS open to the public so feel free to invite family members, friends, co-workers, neighbours, etc.    Included in the ticket price is dinner, dancing and admittance to our silent auction!  There are currently over 120 auction lots with more still arriving every day!

Tickets cost $20 each with half of that money being donated directly to the corps to help pay for the kids’ training, uniforms, special activities such as swim and sports days, marksmanship training, band costs, drill training, etc.  With the huge increase in numbers of kids registered comes a huge need to increase our fundraising!  These fundraisers are what makes cadets an activity that can be affordable to EVERYONE.  Most of the cadets activities, training and clothing is provided to families at absolutely no cost to them whatsoever.

Thanks for your help everybody!!

Please email AirdrieArmyCadets@hotmail.com for more information.

With our Feb 11th silent auction coming up, we are looking for donations.  Here is a letter (February Donation Letter) that can be taken to local businesses, employers and anyone else you know who might be willing to donate items.  Please give any items to Mark Bentley along with information about who donated the item so that we can recoznise them.

We’ve been keeping a running list of businesses that have already been approached on the post “Silent Auction Items Needed” under the comments.  You’ll have to click the “Older Comments” link at the bottom of the comments to view them all.  It would be great if some of the cadets local to Airdrie could deliver our donation letter to some local Airdrie businesses.  Many of them really do want to help and only need to be asked!  All that’s needed is to drop the letter off to business owners — any additional questions or pick-up arrangements will come to Mark Bentley because it’s his email and phone number that are listed on the letter.

Cash donations are also quite welcome!  Cheques can be made out the Alberta Army Cadet League in order to get a tax receipt.  Here is a letter to use when requesting cash donations.

Thanks so much for your help everyone!!

Dinner at Dick’s Tickets

By Paula Mitchell-Bentley | Filed in Donations, Events

Step right up and get your tickets!!  Tonight at our Christmas party, we will be selling tickets to our adults only Dinner at Dick’s fundraiser event.  The tickets are $20 each with half of every ticket sale being donated to our corps.  Fundraisers such as this one can really help to keep our costs to a minimum making sure that every cadet who wants to participate in our various programs is able to.

This event will be held on February 11, 2012 and will (hopefully) sell out quickly so make sure to get your tickets as soon as you can!  There are a limited amount of tickets available to purchase for this event.  We will be having dinner (included in ticket price) and there will be another great silent auction event as a fundraiser for the cadets.

We’ve already got some great items up for bids including an overnight stay at a beautiful resort in Canmore!!  There are lots of items there that would make a great Valentine’s Day gift for your sweetie (or yourself!!).  We are still collecting donations for this silent auction so just drop me a line if you gather anything else up for it at pjkmitchell@hotmail.com.  It is sure to be a great kid-free night out and a great opportunity for all parents, staff and volunteers to hang out and mingle.

Look for the table selling these tickets at our party tonight.  We will be taking cash or checks for both these tickets and our silent auction items:)

I hope there’s a big turn out for this latest new activity that we are starting up:)

Gift Exchanges

By Paula Mitchell-Bentley | Filed in Events

There will be TWO gift exchanges at the Christmas party this weekend.  The cadets can bring a wrapped $10 gift for the “big kid” exchange and their siblings can bring a wrapped $5 gift for the “little kid” exchange.  The kids always have a ton of fun at these exchanges and love watching what everyone else got!!

For the sibling gift exchange, let’s do ages 2-3 and up so that there is less need to worry about choking hazards or any safety issues that may be posed.

Looking forward to an evening of fun!!

Silent Auction Donations…

By Paula Mitchell-Bentley | Filed in Donations, Events

There’s still time to get in silent auction donations if you’d like to contribute or get last minute word that someone you approached for a donation has something.  Donations can be delivered to Mark Bentley or Captain Mark at Wednesday’s cadet night at Ralph McCall school.  I’d like to physically have all items in advance of the party on Sunday so that I can make up the bid sheets with the bidder’s logos and name of the person who solicited the donation, thank all donors on facebook, list all the donors on the website and include all items and donors in a power point demonstration that will play throughout both silent auction fundraisers.

Remember, there will be two silent auctions this year.  One on Dec. 11 at the cadet potluck Christmas party and another on Feb. 11 at our Dinner at Dick’s fundraiser night.  Make sure to bring your purses and wallets to get those bids in.  We’ve got a great selection of items to bid on this year — everything from tickets to plays, baskets of lotion, a couple of Christmas CD’s, comedy club tickets, spa gift card, candles, jewellery and even a hot air balloon ride!!  Thanks so much to all of our donors and everyone who helped round up all of the donations:)
