Our Corps in the News — “Auction for the Highlanders” Feb. 15, 2012 (Airdrie Echo)

March 15, 2012 in Events, In The News

Here’s the other newspaper mention that I forgot to add onto the website here. Reporter Carolyn McTighe from the Airdrie Echo came to our Valentine’s Fundraiser at Dick’s Pub on Feb. 11. She published a picture and a small write up of the event in the Feb. 15 issue of the Airdrie Echo. The link can be seen on page 31 here: http://eedition.airdrieecho.com/doc/Airdrie-Echo/airdrieecho_20120215/#30

In that same paper, Chris Mulders from Airdrie 360 was interviewed on Page 30 and mentioned coming out and doing a story on our corps as well. We have gotten a ton of local coverage of our corps lately due to our constant contact with the media and press releases. It has been a lot of hard work but definitely worth the time and energy invested!

On another note, our auction was also attended by the mayor of Airdrie and one of Airdrie’s aldermen. Thanks so much Mayor Brown and Alderman Hunter for attending our event. It was great to see some representation from City Hall out supporting our cadets!! I’ll have to make sure to invite them back to the ACR… someone better remind me:)

Cadet Garage Sale and Barbecue Fundraiser

February 13, 2012 in Donations, Events, Fundraiser

It’s time to start collecting stuff for our annual cadet garage sale and fundraiser!!

This event has occurred the last few years and has been a big success in raising much needed money for our corps.

Donations of household goods, sporting equipment, clothes, and anything else that might sell at a garage sale are welcome!  Start making a collection pile of goods in your house today.  We welcome donations of goods from members of the community as well as cadet family members.

The tentative date set for this event is June 10 and it will occur (as usual) at Chris Taylor’s house.  Thanks so much for letting us use your garage and driveway (and neighbours some years too!!) Chris.

There will also be a bbq going with hotdogs and such available for sale.  This event will require a few different shifts of cadets and parent volunteers to keep it manned throughout the day.  This event has always been a good time in the past and will surely be one this year as well!!

This site will list more details as the event draws nearer including a volunteer sign up sheet and the Taylor’s address.  Make sure to keep anything that could be sold at this garage sale and to encourage people to come on out and shop in support of the Airdrie Army cadets.

Home and Lifestyle Show

February 10, 2012 in Events, volunteering

Our corps will be participating in the Airdrie Home and Lifestyle Show this year from April 28-April 29.  Check out the link to the Home show for more information about this event – click here.

We will have a table at this event with information about Army cadets and our corps.  We will be needing cadet and parent volunteers to man the table during this weekend long event that will take place at Genesis Place.

Volunteer sign up sheets and further details will be provided as the time for this event draws closer.  This will be a great way to spread word of our corps, what the Alberta Army cadets are all about and how fantastic our corps is!

SAT Trainer dates

February 3, 2012 in Calgary Highlanders, Events, Training

We have been offered 2 dates for use of the ST Trainer at Mewata Armories (801 11 ST SW, Calgary).  This is the rifle trainer used by the Calgary Highlanders.  This is a great experience for the cadets, especially if they like shooting!  This is not mandatory, but fun for the cadets!

Sections 1-3 will go on Feb 9 1830-2100
Sections 3-6 and the Air Rifle team on Feb 23 1830-2100

Cadets can wear combats or civilian clothing.

Be aware there is another cadet corps parading there on thursday evenings so cadets must be on their best behavior.

Parents are welcome to stay, there might be time for you to shoot too!  There will be no car pooling, cadets are welcome to post below if they need a ride. We really hope everyone can join in this great opportunity!!

If you cannot attend on that day for any reason just let Capt. Mark know and we can switch days, as long as there will be half the cadet corps attending on each day, more shooting relays will be allotted!
